Nakanoshima, an island surrounded by rivers, is the main venue of Aqua Metropolis Osaka 2009. By making the best use of this location, a wide variety of attractions will be offered over a period of 52 days. Nakanoshima will transform into an "island of dreams and illuminations."

Waterfront Bunkaza Cultural Plaza
Every day during the event period
This familiar park will turn into a special venue for waterfront enjoyment. A wide range of interactive attractions are planned that children and parents alike can enjoy together with art instructors (Artist Factory) and workshops selected from across the country.
Ateliers will be set up for participants to create things from disused items. This project offers participants hands-on experience in recycling. Together with artists, participants will share an experience of decorating the venue and changing the scenery.

People of all generations can participate in producing ornaments and illuminations from PET bottles and waste materials. These items will be displayed at the venue.

Disused sports shoes will be disassembled to produce sandals.
Many interactive attractions will be offered, such as "Toy Exchange Bazaar" "Giant game facilities". A “game stadium” will be created from waste materials.
Talk shows and lectures will be held by various "water specialists." Dancers, street performers and performance artists will make surprise appearances to enliven the events.
Illuminations
After sunset
At nightfall, Nakanoshima will turn into an "island of illuminations." Nights in Osaka will offer fantastical views.
Art Boats Project
Weekends and consecutive holidays
An unique boat decorated by an artist will cruise along the Water Corridors.
Illumination of Bridges
After sunset
Three bridges will be beautifully decorated with illumination arts befitting its history and shape.
Kitahama Terraces (Osaka Kawayuka)

Riverside dining terraces will be open on the bank of the Tosabori-gawa River.
